Waiting on Congress Avenue Bridge

This shot, one of my favorites, was actually the result of a failed attempt to capture a photo of the bats leaving Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin during the summer of 2009. For some reason, the bats left about 20 minutes earlier than usual that night so, by the time I arrived and set up my camera, the ribbon of a million or so bats was nowhere to be seen. While hanging around talking to a couple of friends, I noticed that the usually-busy bridge had cleared of all traffic except for this one pedestrian so I grabbed her silhouette against the sunset sky and ended up with this image. Bryce Canyon at Sunrise

Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah is magical with amazing colors and forms in the pillar-like hoodoos within the canyon. This shot was taken on a very cold, winter morning just after sunrise. Thank goodness for hand warmers!
